| The three man team that won the 12.5 pound Zeus burger
contest with a time of 1:11:52 weighed a combined 910 pounds. Their
combined time of 3 * 1:11:52 = 3:35:36 was 41 minutes longer than
Kate, 795 pounds lighter, took to eat just 1.5 pounds less. If the
team ate at a consistent pace, they passed the 11 pound mark when their
total time was 3:35:36
* (11/12.5) = 3:09:44, 15 minutes longer than Kate alone needed to
consume that amount. "Badlands" Booker has eaten 30 hot dogs in Nathan's Hot Dog Contest. Kate can eat the 96er (7.5 hours / 2.9 hours) = 2.59 times faster than Booker. If this ratio can be maintained throughout the twelve minute contest, Kate will eat 30 hot dogs in 12/2.59 = 4.63 minutes and finish having eaten 30 * 2.59 = 77.6 frankfurters. This would be 24 more than Kobayashi's current world record and more than the winning amounts from 1984 to 89 combined. (Added 3/1) Kate (115 lb.), Sonya Thomas (105 lb.), Lori Weiss (90 lb.) and Takako Akasaka (104 lb.), have a combined weight 6 pounds less than 420 pound Badlands Booker. (Added 2/24) Albert Einstein, who joined the The Institute for Advanced Study in 1932, was another famous resident of Princeton, New Jersey. (Maybe a mini black hole escaped from the institute and wound up inside Kate) The 96er burger is estimated to contain 12,438 calories. This is equal to about a week's worth of the approximately 1,800 daily calories recommended for the average woman. If Kate's weight went from 115 to 126 after eating the burger, her Body Mass Index increased from 18 (in the underweight range) to 19.7 (considered normal) If Kate ate three more burgers to bring her weight to 159, her BMI would be 24.9 which is the threshold between normal and overweight. (Kate is 5'7") It is estimated that the burger contains 755 grams of protein (almost 2 pounds). (If Barry Bonds could have ingested that much protein normally he might have avoided steroid use.) It is difficult to see how Denny's Beer Barrel Pub makes a profit on the 96er with a price of $23.95. The local supermarket price for 80% lean beef is $3.19/lb. This would bring the cost of the meat alone to $19.14, with cheese, condiments, the bun, electricity and labor not included. The lower wholesale cost for meat should decrease the price, but probably not enough to compensate for all the additional ingredients. Environmentalists claim up to 20 pounds of grain are needed to produce a pound of beef. If this value is correct, the grain required for the burger outweighs Kate. Lori Weiss probably consumed a greater percentage of her body weight than Kate did. If Lori's uneaten portion is assumed to weigh a pound, then she ingested 10/90 = 11.1% of her mass, while Kate's fraction is 11/115 = 9.6%. About two additional pounds of food would be required for Kate to attain Lori's percentage. The most Sonya Thomas has eaten in competition is 11 pounds, giving her a 11/105 = 10.5% ratio (she believes her maximum stomach capacity is 16 pounds). Competitive eating and riflery, two of the most "politically incorrect" kinds of contests, ironically have more gender parity than just about anything else which could be considered a sport.
