| Good Morning America
January 21, 2005 At desk, Kate is not present. Jimmy Buffet's "Cheeseburger in Paradise" plays CG - Charles Gibson DS - Diane Sawyer |
||
| CG | So it looks like a cheeseburger, right? I mean there it sits. Nice cheeseburger, a little appetizing. How much does it weigh Diane? | ![]() |
| DS | It weighs 10 pounds, Charlie. | |
| CG | A 10 pound burger. Can you lift it? | |
| DS | Yeah, I can lift it like this, but can I get in one bite? We're gonna try later on because there's a girl who weighs about 100 pounds who won a contest eating this, and this morning we're gonna figure out how on earth you do that and Marisol Castro says she's going to give it a whirl. | |
| CG | She's gonna try a 10 lb burger? | ![]() |
| DS | These tiny girls, teeny little girls who can beat the big guys at this sort of thing. | |
| CG | Remember the advertising slogan, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" If anybody can say that, it would be this young woman. Anyway, you'll meet her when we go to the water cooler. Good Morning America. I'm Charles Gibson. | |
| DS | I'm Diane Sawyer. Good to have you back. | |
| Around
the Water Cooler Segment Everyone is sitting around a table with a 96er and some smaller burgers (which aren't mentioned) KS - Kate Stelnick RR - Robin Roberts MC - Marisol Castro |
||
| CG | A restaurant offers a challenge: could you eat a ten pound burger? Kate Stelnick, who weighs only 100 pounds, took up the challenge and you did it? | |
| KS | Yes. | |
| CG | How? | |
| KS | It was hard. | |
| DS | Three hours. you started with the meat for two hours and then switched off to the onion and the bun? | ![]() |
| KS | Right, but I still had some meat by the end and it was cold and it was hard to eat but it was good in the beginning, so it was OK. | |
| DS | And how long did you starve before you did this? | |
| KS | Well I didn't eat 14 hours before but I ate very little the day before and then drank a lot of beverages. | ![]() |
| RR | And very little after, I would imagine you ate. | |
| KS | Like a salad, that was about it. | |
| CG | Did you get on a scale before and after? | |
| KS | No, I don't want to know. | ![]() |
| CG | Good thing, good thing. | |
| DS | How did you know you could do this? | |
| KS | I have a pretty big appetite. | |
| MC | Where did all of it go? | ![]() |
| CG | Are those the same jeans you wore? | |
| KS | No, I kind of wore very baggy clothes when I ate this burger. | |
| DS | Well, you only won like gift certificates to the burger joint. | ![]() |
| MC | And I'm gonna ... | |
| CG | And you're gonna try it (to Marisol). | |
| DS | I want to thank Denny Leigey, from Denny's Beer Barrel Pub for making our burgers. | |
| There was a running gag with Marisol apparently eating the 96er throughout the remainder of the show. In the last segment of GMA, after claiming she was ready for her second burger, a surveillance video was played showing Marisol handing out fragments of the sandwich to the audience. Kate is asked one final question: | ![]() |
|
| CG | When you look at this (96er) now, does it give you a slight touch of dyspepsia? | |
| KS | No, I feel kind of hungry looking at it. | |
