Captain Marvel’s cameo in Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings was confusing — and now the twists and turns of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are making it worse.
This article contains spoilers for Mrs Miracle episode 6
Mrs Miracle The episode 6 post-credits scene does Shang Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings own post-credits scene even more confusing. Post-credits scenes have become synonymous with the MCU. It’s not that Marvel was the first studio to use them, it’s that they’ve become a hallmark of the franchise. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Marvel’s love of post-credits scenes is inspired by his own love of movies. “I’ve always liked that kind of thing, whether it’s Ferris Bueller or Masters of the Universe,he admitted. As a movie nerd, I never wanted it to end.“
The MCU’s post-credits scenes generally serve as the connective tissue that holds the various films and TV shows together, which explains why they’re often shock-cast (Brett Goldstein as Hercules, Charlize Theron as Clea, or Harry Styles as Starfox) or straight-forward setup include (The discovery of Thor’s hammer in iron man 2, or Shang-Chi’s sister who takes over the Ten Rings). Unfortunately, the MCU’s post-credits scenes don’t always work, largely because the studio changes direction a lot more than most viewers realize. In hindsight, only one of the post-credits scenes from Phase 1 made sense.
The post-credits scenes for Shang Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings and Mrs Miracle Episode 6 seems to clash simply because they present alternate visions of Captain Marvel. in the Shang Chi‘s post-credits scene, Captain Marvel attends a holographic conference to discuss the mystical artifacts Shang-Chi now carries. She has a new hairdo but is still wearing the costume Avengers: Endgame. Then she shows up Mrs Miracle‘s post-credits scene in a weird body swap sequence triggered by Kamala Khan’s mysterious bracelet. The hairstyle is the same, suggesting the two scenes take place around the same time, but Captain Marvel has an all-new costume.
Why Shang-Chi’s Post-Credits Scene Was So Confusing
Shang ChiThe post-credits scene has always been pretty confusing. On the one hand, Bruce Banner’s arm is still in a sling afterwards Avengers: Endgame, which means the scene can’t play out too long after Thanos is defeated. On the other hand, Captain Marvel’s hair has had time to grow back, which means it must be several months later. The latter is probably the more accurate, since the Chinese Qingling festival makes up a large part of the plot Shang Chi, which takes place around early April 2024 — but that makes Banner’s noose seem pretty odd. now Mrs Miracle features the same hairstyle for Carol Danvers—yet it’s pretty much definitely set in fall 2025 (set decorations are dated 2025, Kamala has just started her junior year and her school seems to be starting preparations for a homecoming dance). So it’s actually well over a year in between Shang Chi and Mrs Miracle in the chronology of the MCU. It is believed that Carol Danvers liked the hairstyle she got in April 2024 and had her hair cut in the same style in the fall of 2025.
Why Captain Marvel’s costume is so different in Ms. Marvel
It’s entirely possible that Captain Marvel doesn’t consider costume changes to be a big deal; She wields a Kree device that allows her to literally redesign her outfit at the touch of a button. From an out-of-universe perspective, there’s probably a simple reason; Marvel likes to give its characters new costumes for each film, and the new outfit was most likely not ready when the studio got involved Shang Chi‘s post-credits scene, which prompted her to stick with a previously established one instead. Regarding the timeline, Shang ChiThe post-credits scene is known to have been filmed in early 2021 while the production was underway The wonders only started in May of this year. Unclear when Mrs MiracleThe post-credits of were filmed, but it may well have been concurrent with the production of The wonders given reshoots and additional photographs were shot in 2022.
That’s the irony of Marvel’s post-credits scenes; Viewers understandably ponder the smallest details, but in reality they can be shaped by out-of-universe factors as much as Marvel’s desire for an overarching narrative. While Captain Marvel’s costume change could be a plot point The wonders, in truth it’s entirely possible that Marvel allowed the inconsistency just because they felt it didn’t matter that much. As mentioned, upon closer inspection, the MCU’s post-credits scenes often have logic gaps and continuity issues – Marvel filmed an entire one-shot, The consultantrepair The incredible Hulk‘s post-credits scene – and it’s no surprise that the problems continue in phase 4 with Shang Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings and Mrs Miracle.
