No one knew exactly how much controversy a Pixar film could get caught up in, and it certainly is light year. One of the biggest talking points was that the film would feature the first same-sex kiss, which caused all sorts of people to get upset about Disney. When Tim Allen wasn’t asked to reprise his iconic role as Buzz Lightyear, it drew a lot of negative publicity. Honestly, it’s a film that went in a different direction and needs to be treated as such. Now, however, Tom Hanks has responded to the latter controversy. According to the actor, “How about this? Actually, I wanted to compete against Tim Allen, but then they didn’t let Tim Allen. I do not understand that.”

What Tom Hanks is referring to is that his big movie is out now, which is that elvis biopic. Hanks plays Colonel Tom Parker, the businessman who some considered the villain in Elvis’ life. light year also dropped at the same time but without Tim Allen, which has confused Hanks along with many other people. Chris Evans was asked to voice the character and he did a really good job. The problem is that the film had nothing to do with the toy, which Allen alluded to when asked about his lack of involvement. According to Allen, “This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first films.” He’s certainly right, as the Toy Story franchise ended in 2019, leaving this one new light year film to be something completely different.

In all honesty, it would be great to have both Tom Hanks and Tim Allen back in one of their most iconic roles, but it’s time to move away from this franchise. light year was trying something else. Reboots and remakes are the way of the world these days, and sometimes these iterations of history don’t work. That’s not necessarily the case for Lightyear, as it has positive reviews despite its low box office numbers for a Pixar film. Still, it may seem like blasphemy that Allen wasn’t considered for the role.

We understand why so many people are upset that Tim Allen wasn’t asked to voice Buzz again. We reported three weeks ago that a Sheriff Woody Film is also in development, which will basically follow the same style as Lightyear. However, if Tom Hanks doesn’t get the call to reprise his role, that will upset a lot of people, too. So we understand why Hanks and the Toy Story-loving world are scratching their heads over Allen not returning. But this, too, was an opportunity to do something different, and Pixar took it. As they say, “fortune favors the brave”.

light year is currently in theaters, and fans can see Chris Evans take on the role of Buzz Lightyear. You can decide if Tim Allen was the person to call out or if Evans did well in this reimagining of the character. We understand why people are upset, but it’s just different. However, we could get a little more upset if Tom Hanks isn’t called to see Sheriff Woody.
