New updates will be added at the end of this story…….
Original story (published July 12, 2022) follows:
If you are an iOS user, you may not get all the benefits of Google apps that are readily available for Android users. And that’s the case with YouTube’s PiP (Picture-in-Picture) mode.
YouTube has been offering PiP mode for all Android users since its inception. However, its availability was limited on iOS and only premium members could try it as an experimental feature, even that for a limited time.
After YouTube completely removed the feature from iOS a few months ago, YouTube has finally announced that it will gradually roll out the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode on iOS for all users.
However, the feature is limited to premium members worldwide, while those in the US can still use it without a premium subscription.
YouTube error “Music content cannot be played in PiP”.
With this in mind, those who try to use Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode on their iPhones or iPads receive the error message “music content cannot be played in PiP” even when playing non-music content (1, 2, 3, 4).
I disabled pip in my general settings on my iphone, i can’t find any pip settings in my youtube settings, and i still get this annoying notification. how to stop it (Source)
@TeamYouTube There is an error where I keep getting a message about PiP “Cannot play music content in Picture In Picture (PiP).” Even though I don’t have YouTube Premium, it still shows up. And in my YouTube settings there is a picture-in-picture enabler/disabler. (source)
This renders the feature completely unusable and affects all users, premium or non-premium.
However, someone managed to find a possible workaround that might help you get rid of this pop-up temporarily. You can check it out below and see if it works for you.
Workaround: Another thing I found is that if you pause the YT video before going to the home screen, it shouldn’t appear. (Source)
Although users may be able to temporarily fix the music content cannot be played in PiP error, a definitive solution to the same error is needed as it renders the feature totally worthless.
Unfortunately, YouTube support has not yet confirmed this issue. However, we’ll be keeping an eye on the latest developments and will let you know as soon as anything of note emerges.
In the meantime, you can also check out our YouTube bug tracker, where we have mentioned various bugs and issues affecting YouTube and YouTube Music users, along with their workarounds if any.
Update 1 (July 13)
11:24 am (ACTUAL): TeamYouTube on Twitter has confirmed this issue and stated that it is currently under investigation. However, they have not provided an ETA for the fix.
We’ve received similar reports of this issue (unable to play music content in PiP) and are currently investigating. (source)
